This week, Caverna’s Community Exhibition spotlighted students from grades 2, 5, 8, and 12 who earned "Exemplary" on their Profile of a Colonel Defenses. These top presenters took center stage to share their "Defense of Learning" with families, stakeholders, and the local community.
The Defense of Learning is a capstone project completed at the end of each grade band. To succeed, students must provide concrete evidence that they have mastered the competencies outlined in the Profile of a Colonel: Communicator, Collaborator, Innovator, Self-Directed, and Civic/Globally Minded.
The presentations grow in complexity as students advance through the district:
2nd Grade: Defended one mastery and one growth area.
5th Grade: Defended two masteries and one growth area.
8th Grade: Defended three masteries and one growth area.
12th Grade: Seniors defended mastery in all five competencies.
This year’s exhibition was a true community affair. While families and stakeholders gathered in person, the event was also live-streamed to every classroom, allowing the entire district to witness the standard of excellence.
"Our students are proving they aren't just ready to move on to the next grade level or graduate, they are ready to lead. Whether presenting as an 'Innovator' or a 'Civic-Minded' leader, our 'Exemplary' learners have set a high bar for what it means to be a Caverna Colonel." -Whitney Paul
This spring marks a significant milestone for the district. "We are now wrapping up our 4th year of completing defenses and are excited to see what the future holds," Ms. Tobin noted, highlighting the growth of the program since its inception.
Caverna Independent Schools extends a heartfelt thank you to:
Our Families: For your unwavering support.
Local Government Officials & Organizations: For serving as authentic audiences and mentors.
The Press: For highlighting our students’ achievements.
Congratulations to all the students who earned an Exemplary score. You have truly modeled what it means to be a Caverna Colonel!
